The name MANITOU goes back to 1958, when Marcel Braud, in the small French village of Ancenis, came up with the idea of reversing the layout of a farm tractor and adding a lift mast with hydraulic steering, creating the world's first rough-terrain forklift truck. The name Manitou, meaning "handles everything," was chosen during a family brainstorming session for being easy to pronounce in any language, reflecting the company's ambitions for international growth from the outset. Manitou went on to launch the first telescopic forklift for construction in 1982 and its first rotating telehandler, the MRT 1540, in 1993, alongside an expanding range of aerial work platforms. The company remained under family leadership for decades, growing into a global leader with revenue of nearly €2.9 billion and around 5,500 employees. With more than 65 years of engineering heritage as the inventor of the category, Manitou remains synonymous with rough terrain material handling.

Models such as the M30-4 and MC30-4 are diesel-powered 4x4 rough terrain forklifts with 3 tonne capacity, triplex or duplex masts, and lifting heights up to 5.5 metres, several fitted with side-shift, freelift, and working lights for versatile outdoor use. The smaller MC25-4 offers a 2.5 tonne capacity with similar rough terrain capability for lighter applications. Many of these units are available new with valid inspection directly from stock.
