The name Kögel goes back to 1934, when the young Franz Xaver Kögel took over a wagon-making workshop from his former teacher in Neu-Ulm, Germany, right as motorized freight transport was taking off with the arrival of the autobahn network. What began as a small trades business producing floors, side panels and underframes for truck beds grew steadily, merging in 1956 with a neighbouring chassis and trailer forge to form an industrial concern in the Donautal district. Over the following decades, Kögel became known for its innovations, presenting Germany's largest long-material semi-trailer in 1958 and building Europe's first all-plastic refrigerated semi-trailer in 1961. Now based in Burtenbach, Bavaria, and owned by Ulrich Humbaur since 2009, Kögel has gone on to produce well over half a million vehicles and employs around 1,200 people across 11 countries. With 90 years of German engineering heritage behind it, Kögel remains one of Europe's leading trailer manufacturers.
