The name JLG stands for John L. Grove, who founded the company in 1969 in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, after witnessing a fatal scaffolding accident and setting out to build a safer way to work at height. With a crew of just 20 workers at a small metal fabrication shop, Grove developed and sold the first JLG aerial work platform in 1970, effectively founding the modern access equipment industry. The company went on to introduce its first scissor lift in 1976 and has claimed numerous industry firsts since, including oscillating axles for boom and scissor lifts in 1981 and the world's tallest self-propelled boom lift in 2014. Since 2006 JLG has operated as part of Oshkosh Corporation, while continuing to build on Grove's original focus on safety and innovation.

The JLG 2630ES is a compact electric scissor lift with a working height of around 10 metres, non-marking tyres, and a platform extension, well suited to indoor maintenance and installation work. Larger models such as the 4069LE and M4069LE extend to 14.2 metres with 360kg capacity in electric or hybrid configurations. On the boom side, the rough-terrain 860SJ reaches 28.2 metres, while the JLG 1250AJP articulating boom offers 40.1 metres of working height with a rotating jib for demanding outdoor access work.
